Scripture: Hebrews 3: 1-15

It would likely be an accurate statement if I said that each one of us would like to be known as a reliable person, someone you can count on in a time of need. We want to be dependable for our families, for the people we work with and for our friends. We want to have a reputation of sticking with our commitments. Our conscience tells us this is the way we should be, and we also realize that friendships and family relationships will break down if we are not dependable. People want to know what we have committed to will be carried out.
Now everyone has expectations of us that go beyond what we can deliver. Many times we can find ourselves with 2 or 3 demands on our time right at the same moment. In today’s world if you have youth you can find yourself with two sporting events, two meetings and projects at work all due at the same hour. That has happened to me. But if we are faithful in keeping our commitment on a regular basis people will understand.
In the work world being dependable is an important characteristic. It is something that students are measured by at school. The bible also talks about being faithful. The bible says being faithful, being dependable is an important characteristic. Jesus told the parable of the talents and most of us know what the master said to the dependable servant. “Well done you good and faithful servant.” Those are words we all need to hear.
